c.1929 Buffalo Toy & Tool Works, Mechanical Fliver Bug in Original Box

Fantastic one-man, steel litho mechanical Fliver Bug manufactured by Buffalo Toy. In excellent+ to near mint condition, unplayed with, and complete with original box. I was unaware that there were two versions of this car. The previous examples I've found all had a red body and chassis. This vehicle is two tone blue and yellow. I've never seen it before. It's also only the fifth completely intact box I've ever found from this small toy company. (Paragraph written July, 2006).

Classic bumper-car shape the body was lithoed blue around the driver and rear of the car. Everywhere else, including the chassis plate, was lithoed yellow. The blue area comes to a point on the front hood of the car. Serveral vertical stripes representing grille plates were also lithoed blue. The driver is also lithoed yellow and embossed on both sides with an attached steering wheel. In front of the driver is a chrome windshield frame which, when originally produced, did not have a celluloid windshield.

On the underside it has three wooden wheels; all of different size. The large one on the right is connected directly to the clockwork motor and provides the power. The smallest rear wheel is centered in a metal housing. It too is connected to the motor and turns randomly left or right. The front left, medium sized wheel is loose to insure that the Bug keeps moving. It has an attached cast iron key.

The box is a simple text only design which includes the name of the toy, manufacturer, address, and that great Buffalo logo on the endflaps.

Size: 6½" long and 3½" at its widest.
